King Aleksandar I Karađorđević’s Bridge

Among the sights in the town, an old iron bridge is also one of the symbols of the city. The bridge was built in 1929, and was named after King Aleksandar I Karađorđević, who helped building the bridge. At the beginning of World War II the bridge was destroyed, but in June 1946 was renewed and its name was changed into Filip Kljajić Fićo’s Bridge (named after a national hero from the National Liberation War). It got its original name back in 2009. The bridge is about 150 meters long and 7.2 meters wide. The bridge, apart from constant usage, has a historical, aesthetic and architectural value. Today it is only pedestrian bridge and very important symbol of connection and understanding among the people of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia. The municipality of Zvornik declared the bridge a protected historic facility.
